Apple buys new campus for $445 million for massive expansion in San Diego – AppleInsider

Apple has acquired the current Rancho Vista corporate headquarters in San Diego, as part of its ongoing plan to expand its hardware and software engineering in the region.

In 2019, Apple committed to adding 1,200 new tech jobs in San Diego by 2022, and said it hoped to create a new campus there. It has since reportedly been renting buildings across University City and Rancho Bernardo, but has now purchased the 67-acre Rancho Vista Center for $445 million.

according to San Diego Union-TribuneThis is Apple’s first commercial property purchase in the region. The post also notes that Apple is working on its own hiring plans, and now aims to have 5,000 workers locally by 2026.

An Apple Publishing spokesperson said, “We’ve been part of the community in San Diego for more than two decades, and we’re thrilled to continue investing here as we expand our world-class teams.”

City officials said in 2019 that Apple plans to hire employees for both hardware and software jobs. But Qualcomm’s presence in the region has sparked rumors that Apple is focusing its work Efforts to replace cellular modem processors of that company.

Now, however, San Diego Union-Tribune Reports indicate that Apple’s careers site includes new job opportunities across software, data science, and careers other than hardware.

Rancho Vista Center was formerly owned by Hewlett Packard. HP sold the campus to Swift Real Estate for $69 million, before subsequently renting out five of its seven buildings.

Swift Real Estate says it has spent $80 million to renovate the campus, including adding a fitness center, multiple sports fields, etc. it describes As a “professional run cafe”.
