A new batch of iPhones is on the way soon, and the leaks and rumors have been pretty convincing so far — well, at least when it comes to the two premium models. In contrast, the two low-end phones (iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max) seem to have only minor upgrades. However, it appears that the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will be a huge step forward from their current counterparts. And the latest leak has us more excited than ever. (Don’t imagine waiting? Check out the best iPhone 13 Pro deals currently available).
According to the supply chain sources mentioned in NumbersThe iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will both have 6GB of RAM using a faster type of memory called LPDDR5. Put this together with previous rumors that they will be running an A16 Bionic processor – a huge improvement over the A15 in the iPhone 13 series – and we can expect a significant performance improvement in these two phones, which are expected to launch in mid-September.
In practical terms, this means that apps should load faster, games should be smoother and more responsive… Pretty much everything should be faster and easier basically. However, we don’t expect the same bump from the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max, which will also have 6GB of RAM but with the less-fast LPDDR4X type of memory, and the same A15 processor as the iPhone 13.
This difference between the basic iPhone 14 models and the premium models reflects other leaks and rumors we’ve heard so far, from the likes of John ProsserAnd the Ming Chi Kuo And the Ross Young. For example, the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max are expected to have larger camera bumps thanks to a new 48-megapixel sensor, which will capture much more detail than the 12-megapixel sensor on the 13 Pro. These models (but not the cheaper ones) are also expected to have an always-on display.
Plus, as you’d expect, premium phones tend to have larger screens. Leaks suggest that it will have a diagonal of 6.7 inches, with a resolution of 1284 x 2778, compared to a 6.1-inch screen, 1170 x 2532 on the two cheaper models. We also expect a 120Hz refresh rate on the 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max models, but a 60Hz refresh rate on the 14 and 14 Max.
As always, we must stress that this is all unofficial, and Apple has yet to confirm it. However, the picture that seems to be emerging is that upgrading to the new iPhone 14 or iPhone 14 Max isn’t going to make the biggest change in your life… but spending more to get the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max could be great. your world.
